Transplant Day

| | TrackBacks (0)

Today was the big day!  Wyatt received his transplant this afternoon.   It was over sort of quickly - just 20 minutes.  But he did fine...in fact, he slept right through it.  :)  The staff at the hospital were great!  They put a poster on his door which reads "It's BMT Day!"  They gave him balloons and wrapped gifts - for his second birthday.  :)

He has started to feel the effects of chemo today.  He woke up today not feeling so great.  I guess we've been lucky to make it this far without the nausea, etc.  But even feeling badly, he still spends most of the day playing and dancing.  He has become quite the dancer since being admitted to the hospital.   He often asks us to watch his "moves".  He also likes to pass the time "fixing" my hair.  He told me today that my new hair would make my friends very happy but some of them might cry.  One of the few things about this experience we enjoy is getting to spend so much one on one time with Wyatt.  He is such a funny, creative and nice little guy.  His imagination is amazing.   Not a day goes by without him surprising me with some thought or amusing me with a new story.

Counting down the days....

Wyatt is on his third day of chemo and handling it like a champ. He is such a brave little guy!  He has been charming the hospital staff.  Well, sometimes charming and other times maybe it's more challenging then charming...He likes to do things himself - blood pressure readings, taking medications, etc.  He has also been surprisingly okay with being stuck in a hospital room 24 hours a day.  I am sure that it will get old before long; but for now, he is tolerating it okay.

Steve's Mom, June, has been here helping us which has been great.  It allows Steve and I to spend a lot of time with Wyatt and not worry about little Owen.

This week members of the local police came to visit.  Wyatt was in heaven!  We have a great picture of him with them.  They told us that they usually have visitors come by every couple of weeks.  He might get a visit from members of the MN Vikings or the MN Wild while he is here.  Steve might be more excited about that than Wyatt....

We have been working on decorating his hospital room and getting ready for Halloween.  They do 'reverse' trick or treating here (the staff comes to his door with candy and treats).  So, he will still get to have a little Halloween fun!  Although he has been wearing his spider costume for weeks already.....

Minnesota

We arrived in Minneapolis last week.  Wyatt just completed his work up week.  It was a long week but Wyatt was a trooper (like always!)  He is scheduled to be admitted tomorrow (10/23).  He will start his chemo on Wednesday.  He has been enjoying his emails!
