Still waiting....

| | TrackBacks (0)

Sorry for the pause in posting.  Wyatt's counts are still low but we are hoping for some good news from his bone marrow biopsy - should be in about a week.

Wyatt was feeling really great the past week until last night.  He was almost back to his old self for a few days.  Unfortunately, he started running a fever again this morning.  So, we are back to the waiting game again....waiting to see if any of the tests reveal the source of the fevers.  There is a lot of waiting in this process, requires a lot of patience which has never been one of my strengths.  Hopefully, the doctors will be able to get things under control quickly so that Wyatt can stay well.

waiting and watching, watching and waiting....

Well, Steve and I are in the watching and waiting business these days.  Wyatt's counts have sort of stalled out.   So, watching for those numbers to increase is adding some anxiety to our days.  I can spend hours just staring at him and willing his little body to grow some cells.  These walls feel mighty close some days....if only someone would say, "you just need to run to California and back for his numbers to go from .4 to .5" - I think I could sprint it.

Wyatt does seem to be feeling a little better everyday though.  He is getting out of bed and playing everyday which is so much fun for us.  It is so wonderful to have some good days with him again.  We hope that he continues feel a little better each day.

Local fundraiser

Wyatt is still working through things.  He definitely seems to be feeling a little better the past few days.  He has been talking a litttle more and he is a bit more interested in playing.

There is another little boy in VA Beach who was recently diagnosed with Fanconi Anemia.  He and his family will be coming to Minnesota for treatment as well.  They are doing some local fundraisers to cover the costs of his  treatment and travel.  They are having a fundraiser today at Chick- Fil-A (the restaurant in front of Sam's Club on Battlefield Boulevard)  A percentage of sales today will go to Trey.  So, if you are in the area, please stop in and be sure to tell them that you are there to support Trey.

Cold in Minnesota

Wyatt continues to feel a little better every day.  He had a slight fever again today.   We are hoping this isn't the start of a new infection.  We will keep our fingers crossed.

Yesterday, he actually laughed.  I didn't realize it until I heard it but it's been quite some time since we've heard him laugh.  And those of you who know Wyatt, you know how much he LOVES to laugh.  Wyatt has always had the most contagious belly laugh.  The sound of his laughter always causes people to do double takes - it's hard to believe that such a big laugh could come from such a small person.  It comes straight from his soul.  And he has such an amazing sense of humor...well beyond his years.  Just another little glimpse to let us know that he is still in there.  He's just using all of his energy to grow cells.

The doctors are hopeful that they are seeing some signs of grafting.   Again, we keep our fingers crossed.  It would be a bit earlier than expected.  But he did get his cord blood from Owen "The Tank" Klimkiewicz.  :)

New day, new room....

Wyatt seems to be feeling a little better each day.  Today, he moved into a new room.  The pediatric bone marrow transplant unit moved to a new floor - everything is brand new!   He is still feeling a little too sick to enjoy it but Steve and I are enjoying it.

Wyatt's fevers seem to be getting better and we are hopeful that he is getting past this first infection.

As I mentioned before, Steve and I have been overwhelmed by the amount of support we have received.  Wyatt is such a lucky little guy to have so many people thinking and praying for him.  He has even been adopted by a 3rd grade class in Florida!   All of the cards, emails, gifts and donations have been so very appreciated.  Bank of America has set up a charity drive - they are matching all the donations made by their employees in Wyatt's honor!   The doctors here in Minnesota are doing some amazing research.  It makes us hopeful for Wyatt's future.  We are looking forward to the day when we can explain to Wyatt how many people made this journey with us.

Still feeling bad....

Wyatt is still fighting his bacterial infection and feeling very sick.  Everyday we hope that tomorrow will be the day  he turns the corner.  He spends most of his day sleeping but every once in awhile we catch a little glimpse of him.  Two nights ago, he asked for a drink but Steve had trouble understanding him.  After three attempts, he finally looked at Steve and said, "Do I have to say it louder?  I need my 'tall' cup!"  Still our funny little guy in there!  Still asking for things in the same particular but sweet way.

Day 8....

Well, unfortunately, Wyatt is still feeling very sick.  We shaved his head this morning.  All that blonde hair is gone...:(

The doctors think they have found the cause of his fevers.  It appears to be a bacterial infection.  They are treating it with antibotics.  So, it will be an anxious few days for us as we wait to see if the infection clears up.

Thank you so much for all of your emails.  We certainly enjoy reading them and Wyatt enjoys hearing them when he is feeling up to it.  I wish we could respond to them all but there is never enough time.  It is very comforting to know that so many people are thinking and praying for Wyatt.

It's hard to keep a good man down

Wyatt is starting to feel pretty lousy.  The past couple of nights have been tough for him.  Clinically, he is doing well, just feeling the normal effects of chemotherapy.  His Papa Buck sent him some new trucks which have helped get him out of bed.  I think the next couple of weeks are going to be challenging for him.  I think we'll spend a lot of time watching movies.  Hopefully, firetrucks and helicopters will continue to keep his spirits up.
