First cold
Well, Wyatt survived his first cold but not without a little drama. He spent a several hours in the emergency room because he had a fever. Unfortunately those hours happened to be in the middle of the night. But he recovered on his own and was not admitted to the hospital. A small victory. It is a relief to know that his body did what it was supposed to do when challenged with a virus. So one down, 857 more to go? Wyatt did have to get a precautionary antibiotic shot which they told us would be quite painful. Wyatt being very knowledgeable about the procedures was concerned about the pinch. We decided in the beginning of all this madness to be as honest as possible with him when things were going to be 'bad'. So, he knew it was going to hurt. And several people had to hold him down for the shot while he was yelling, "Hit 'em Dad! Hit 'em!" Funny but sad at the same time. I think there might have been a small part of Steve that probably did just want to hit them.
Wyatt has been having a great summer so far. He has been out and about, playing with his little friends. He is very happy to do normal things again - learning to swim, playing at the beach, birthday parties, etc. He goes back to clinic again next week. Hopefully things will continue to look good. There are a few parts of his immune system that have not recovered completely. The doctors assure us that it is typical for the immune system to take 10-12 months to fully recover. So we try not to worry and keep our fingers crossed that these things will indeed reach normal levels in time.
The triathlon team is training for the September Sandman race. We are excited for the opportunity to raise money and awareness for FA. I will post more information in the next week. And if you are interested in joining the team, please let me know.
