Wyatt has been having a wonderful summer! He had a great time at his birthday party which was really important to me. He was so very sick at his party last year. He was actually diagnosed with bone marrow failure just few days after his party. It was amazing to see him run around this year. I don't think that I have fully decided that he is past the transplant issues just yet (although I think the doctors have) but I do love the times when I allow myself to see how happy and healthy he looks. I do have moments when I stop worrying for just a minute and I think about how good he looks...how much he looks like any other little four year old.
He also had a great time on our family vacation in The Outer Banks. He and Owen are water bugs. Wyatt actually did a little boogie boarding with Steve which was terrifying to watch. When you weigh in at just 27 lbs, it doesn't take much to knock you down. But he held on and took his hits with a smile and a laugh. I guess we should know by now never to underestimate Wyatt's ability to brave the big ones.
We are making our plans to return to Minnesota in October for Wyatt's one year post transplant appointment. He will have another bone marrow biopsy which we hope will continue to be normal. He does have a few things that have not returned to normal yet. But the doctors are going to give it a year before they start to get concerned. I, of course, will be concerned now. Just another little bump to get over.
Steve is training hard for the triathlon. We are really excited to see 'Wyatt's Warriors' race in just a few weeks. It is a great feeling to see all the support for them. And we are so grateful that they have taken on this challenge to honor our little guy. Go team!!
